Aluminium die castings are lightweight, corrosion-resistant, has high thermal and electrical conductivity, and are very durable. Aluminium die castings remain strong at high temperatures and retain their dimensional stability even if the part has thin walls or is a complex shape.
Aluminium is used more and more in the automotive industry, car parts are being made from Aluminium such as engines, radiators, wheels, bumpers, suspension parts, engine cylinder blocks, transmission bodies and body parts: the hoods, the doors, Clutch cases, main control valve bodies, transmission cases, bed plate, brackets and even sub frames.
Automotive die casting uses a metal engine blocks or gearboxes machined into shape. This process reduces waste and saves time and costs for manufacturers and customers.
With Aluminium being a lightweight metal, it will reduce the weight of future vehicle production. This can help to make vehicles easier to handle on the road by providing a better braking and steering system. Aluminium also absorbs shock better than steel, so it will help to protect people from harm in the event of an accident. Aluminium is the fastest growing material in the automotive market today, expected to grow around 12% on a per vehicle basis by 2026. And by extending battery range, low weight aluminium will play a key role in the electric vehicle revolution.
Aluminium generated the lowest total carbon footprint. More than 95% of automotive aluminium scrap- over one and a half million tons per year is recovered and recycled. Recycling one ton of aluminium saves the energy equivalent of 21 barrels of oil. Aluminium will continue as a critical building material in the infrastructure of the future. And with a 70+ year life span for some building products, it’s a material that will serve generations to come.
